We’d like to give a special thanks to Teffer, Rachel, Anna, Jonathan, Maro, and Tamika who created a fundraiser for OMF in honor of their mother, Laura, on her 70th birthday. They write:
“Laura has lived with ME/CFIDS for over 25 years. She has spent the majority of those years with a severe case, bed or house-bound, and has experienced many medical practitioners not understanding her disease and/or not being able to help in any real way. A few years ago, Mum discovered the Open Medicine Foundation: www.omf.ngo. Open Medicine Foundation raises the money and accelerates the research required to tackle the global health crisis that is ME/CFIDS. ME/CFIDS and related chronic complex diseases (such as post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome, fibromyalgia) are dangerously misunderstood, stigmatized, underfunded and under-researched. Every day over 20 million people around the world are suffering.
While there is still very limited understanding of what causes the disease, and Mum continues to work with a wide variety of practitioners to try and improve her pain, function, and quality of life, the Open Medicine Foundation has provided a huge amount of encouragement for her simply knowing intelligent medical researchers value researching the debilitating disease she has lived with for almost three decades.”
