Ice2Ice Challenge – Cyclist Michael Strasser

ICE2ICE For A Cure

UPDATE: Michael Strasser is now the world record holder and in the Guinness Book of World Records for this ride. Michael completed the Ice2Ice Challenge in 84 days 11 hours and 50 minutes, shaving 15 days 1 hour and 6 minutes off the previous world record.

His effort raised over $26,000 to support OMF’s research.

Michael shared, I do not take it for granted that I can push my body to such limits as I did in my project #ice2icebike. It makes me very happy and I am thankful that I could raise 24.000€ with my project to support the research of ME / CFS to know a little more about these diseases and to maybe cure them one day.”

We are grateful for Michael’s friendship and support.

After beating the world record as the fastest single cyclist to bike from Cairo to Cape Town, Michael Strasser’s life only sped up. However, that is a sharp contrast to his close friend Sarah. Sarah has ALS and since she became Michael’s roommate in 2016, her life has only slowed down.

Since they moved in together, Sarah has inspired Michael to tackle an even larger challenge. Now, Michael is completing project Ice2Ice where he is biking across North and South America from Alaska to Patagonia, Argentina to raise money for ALS and ME / CFS. At 23,000 kilometers, this is the longest drivable route in the world. Michael is racing as a part of Racing4Charity, a group that combines the spirit of sports with charitable benefits. Its members are all ambitious sports people, competitive athletes as well as fitness-oriented amateur athletes.

Sponsor Stroeck Bakery, who inspire healthy eating for active lives, is also a supporter of OMF.

As of this post, Michael is over halfway through his journey. He aims to beat the Guinness World Record of 117 days and 5 hours. Currently, he is beating the record by over 11 days and 8 hours.

You can follow his journey here through live trackings and blogs posted every one to two days and on his website.
