Network medicine

A physician in a white coat touching a glowing hexagonal icon displaying a heart and heartbeat symbol, surrounded by an interconnected network of medical icons.

Network medicine looks at the interactions of genes, proteins, pathways, and other biological components (a network of things) and uses those interactions to understand disease.

Without a clear disease mechanism, network medicine in ME/CFS research provides a unique opportunity to identify potential mechanisms and treatments for the disease. It takes advantage of overlap in symptoms with other diseases and learns from how its common comorbidities are treated, producing new, testable hypotheses.

OMF’s Computational Research Center for Complex Diseases is conducting a network medicine study on ME/CFS, using preclinical and clinical data to identify potential targets for treatment. Read more about the study on our website.
